MCC OPENS – NSWCCC TOUCH TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
The MCC Opens were successful in winning the NSW CCC Touch Tournament in Dubbo last week.
The boys played 8 games and were undefeated throughout the day. In the pool matches MCC defeated Bathurst 6-1; South Sydney 15-0, Lismore 4-3 and CBSA 5-4 and had a 3-3 draw with MCS. They finished top of the pool and played Wollongong in the semi and won a tight match 5-3. The Final against Broken Bay diocese was a tight affair and in a low scoring match MCC were victors 2-1 to take out the Championship.
As a result, 4 boys were selected in the NSW CCC Opens squad to compete at Caloundra in September at the Australian Under 18 National Championships. We congratulate and wish the following 4 boys all the best in making the NSWCCC Opens squad:
Jordan Hill and Joshua Risk, both from Holy Cross Ryde, and Bailey Hayward and Nicholas Elias, both from Christian Bros Lewisham.
Finally congratulations to the Under 15’s who made it back to back titles and a big thank you and congratulations to all the boys who represented MCC in both the 15’s and Opens for your exemplary behaviour on and off the field. It was a pleasure to be involved with fine young men from the various MCC Colleges.

MCC U15 – NSWCCC TOUCH TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
May 24th saw the MCC U/15 & Open boys make the long trek to Dubbo for the NSWCCC Touch selection trials. We were fortunate enough to have the following boys make the teams.
Roberto Catalano, Jordan Swann ( U/15’s) & Declan Bitar, Zac Bitar (Opens)
Myself and Mr Hassett were responsible for coaching and managing the Under 15’s Team.
The boys played 5 pool games winning them all with scores of 7-0 (Southern Sydney), 5-1 (Broken Bay), 11-0 (Armidale), 9-1 (MCS), 5-1 (Lismore) and progressed to the final where they face Maitland/Newcastle. The final was a step up in competition with Newcastle putting up a good game early with the scores at 2-1 in MCC’s favour. Before some brilliant play by the MCC boys who in the end were too strong and ran out winners 5-1.
Although MCC won the day in both grades , the trial is about getting players to the next level. An amazing 9 players were successful in making the NSWCCC team including our under 15’s players Roberto Catalano and Jordan Swann.
All the boys are to be congratulated on their behaviour, attitude and respect demonstrated throughout the course of the entire trip. Thank You also to Mr Hassett for his managerial expertise.
